Did you or someone you know fail a tier II anesthesia inspection by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE)?
If so, you/they are not alone. Unfortunately, hundreds of dentists failed a tier II anesthesia inspection. The TSBDE is making good on their promise to re-inspect those who failed.
Some dentists were recently re-inspected and are getting ‘jammed up’ over ‘repeated failures’.

Physician practices and hospitals routinely audit for compliance, risk management, revenue cycle and quality of care issues. They don’t necessarily like it, but they’ve settled into the routine of doing it to minimize their losses in the ever-increasing fight for dollars between providers and payors. Sadly, few dental practices audit patient records. A lot can be learned from auditing including identification of incomplete or inadequate documentation and/or paperwork, missed billing opportunities, issues that can result in recoupments (even criminal prosecution), and a host of other issues. I work with Private Equity firms as a partner in their due diligence processes. For my parts, office review and records audits, it is about identifying proficiencies and deficiencies (or what I call ‘opportunities’).
Is the office compliant with OSHA, infection control, DEA regulations, radiation regulations, sedation safety/medical emergency preparedness, HIPAA, advertising/marketing, dental board rules/Dental Practice Act? What safety mechanisms are in place to ensure patient and employee safety? Does the practice code/bill properly? Using correct codes? Have adequate supporting clinical notes to support what is billed? Any overbilling or fraud issues? If so, are they isolated or systemic?
